Fisayo Soyombo
Fisayo Soyombo is a 40-year-old Nigerian investigative journalist and the founder of FIJ (Foundation for Investigative Journalism). He is known for being one of the most daring and talented journalists in Nigeria, and started his career in 2009 as an intern with “The Guardian." In 2011, he worked for Content Watch, a pro-local content oil and gas magazine, and later moved to “The Cable” as founding news and feature editor before being promoted within a month to founding editor.
Fisayo stayed with The Cable until 2017, then joined the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) as editor while continuing to freelance for The Cable. In 2019, he gained fame after going undercover to expose rampant corruption in Nigeria's justice system, focusing on the police and the prison service. In 2020, he founded his nonprofit investigative journalism organisation “FIJ” and has continued to report on underreported crimes and cases against Nigerians, including the details of the Lekki Toll Plaza on October 20, 2020.
Fisayo Soyomobo has won several awards for his work and his bravery, including a 2016 Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting and a Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME) for Investigative Reporter of the Year. Recently, he announced another project that required him to go undercover for 47 days in the Saharan desert.
